Average Tempos of Mazurka Performances

According to the current set of mazurka which have been analyzed (about 55 as of May 2006), the average performance tempo (of A minor mazurkas) has been dropping a few beats per minute per decade, as illustrated in the following graph:

Here is a plot showing similar data where the tempo is displayed as a deviation from the average for each composition. The red dots represent the performance year of the composition, while the blue dots represent the tempo deviation for the performance and the year in which the performer was born.
